2006 Management Prize

Sylvie Bogaert, Ying Li, and Tijian Gong

Images contain more than just shapes and colors, they also contain music. Three electronics engineers from Group T—Sylvie Bogaert, Ying Li, and Yijian Gong—developed a system that transforms stationary as well as moving images into sound. They were awarded the 2006 Management Prize for their original piece of work.

Thanks to the state of the art technology and the smart engineering, you can literally listen to visual material. This kind of technology opens up a whole new world to musicians and blind people. And what’s more: they conducted market research and investigated the financial aspects, something engineers often overlook. Although the technology is unlikely to be in the shops tomorrow, it has all the potential to one day become a consumer product in mass-production.
