Brecht Van Hooreweder received the Agoria Thesis Award for Technology and Innovation.
The Group T alumnus received the Flemish prize for his master's thesis entitled The Usage of Optimization Software in the Design of a Solar Car's Carrying Structure. The thesis was supervized by Guido Ceulemans and Saphir Faid.
According to the jury report, the thesis describes the usage of a particular software in a "correct, clear, intelligible, and structured way". There were 50 contenders for the prize. Coached by Yves Persoons, Group T's Communications Manager, Brecht netted the 500-euro check.
The Flemish Thesis Award aims to bridge the gap between science and society through science communication and puts scientific research of young people in the spotlights. As of 2008, Agoria grants its own prize to a thesis marked by topical value, scientific quality, intelligible to laypersons, innovation, and relevance to the technological industry. Agoria represents the sector of technological industry in Flanders.
Brecht is currently working as an assistant for Group T's Master in Elektromechanical Engineering Program and on his way to obtain a PhD from the K.U.Leuven.
