Computer Graphics for the Movie Industry

Frederic Cervini

In 2000, Frederic graduated in electronic engineering. "During my company project, I came in contact with computer graphics and it was love at first sight. it made me want to contribute to the combination of technology and creativity."

Master's in England
A far and wide
search lead him to a master program at the University of Bournemouth in England. "I applied and, after an interview, I was one of twelve lucky chosen candidates who could begin their studies."

Working in London
Following this master, he was approached by the London-based Framestore Production House, one of the biggest production houses in Europe . "They are best known for the popular BBC series ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’ and ‘Walking with Beasts’, for which they ensure that the true pictures and computer-generated pictures match flawlessly," Frank explains. "They also work for the film and advertising industries."

Harry Potter et al
He had only just started his first job when a project Frederic worked on became an immediate hit: the movie ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’. "As junior technical director, I was responsible for the visual effects. It was a time-consuming job; I spent 6 months on 10 shots of an average of 4 seconds. But the result was wonderful." Other great features were to follow like ‘Thunderbirds’, ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ and ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.
